Our products are intelligent and connected
With one of the six global innovation centres in India and the presence of modern manufacturing set ups here, Eaton is committed to the development of Indian market. Shandar Alam, Managing Director, Hydraulics & Vehicle Business-India, Eaton, shares more.

How do you look at the current technology developments in the market? How is Eaton supporting the technology growth in the country?
We believe that the long-term growth story of the country is intact because India still need better infrastructure and so infrastructure development has to happen. Original ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Manufacturers (OEMs) need smarter productive equipment, which can do more with less. One way of doing this is making the machines more compact and lighter with the same output. Eaton with its large capability of having six innovation centres globally with one in India is well positioned to support the requirements of productive smarter machines, which are digitally connected and have more intelligence built into them.

Our focus is primarily on three aspects, safety and reliability, energy efficiency, and intelligence and the connectivity. Our products and solutions are intelligent and connected, and these solutions are generating out of analytics which is helping the OEMs and the end-users to improve the operational cost and efficiency. We have products which are inbuilt with intelligence, lot of sensors built into it, and digitally connected.

What are your new products and solutions for CE industry?
We have a diversified line of power, motion and control products like pumps, valves, motors etc and fluid conveyance products like hoses, connectors etc. Now we are bringing out products which are more compact high pressure products with better control. Space is critical in the equipment design and we are introducing more compact high pressure rating products. We have also introduced new products of piston motors, plug-in motors, and spiral hoses which we displayed at Excon 2019.

From an engineering perspective, the challenge is to increase the efficiency of the product without increasing the cost and make it lighter and compact. We want to make the machines lighter to reduce fuel consumption and smaller to save space. Electrification is the buzzword today and we offer a range of electro-hydraulic products also.

What are the new features to enhance productivity?
Intelligent features make machines smart. If you have more intelligence built into it, better controls can make the equipment more efficient. It is also important whether the components are digitally connected to make the equipment more efficient.

What are the new opportunities in 2020?
Eaton is committed to the Indian market and India plays a strategic role for Eaton globally. This is why you see a significant amount of investments in India by our company over the years. We believe India is a growing market and the infrastructure development will continue. We are well positioned to meet the future requirements with a large innovation centre in the country. We are focused on R&D around safe, reliable and energy-efficient products. Being a global organisation, we can bring in the learning from the developed markets of Europe and the US, leveraging the global platform.
