Era Of New Generation Engines
Diesel Engines are the most preferred prime movers in construction equipment (CE), which are designed for heavy-work cycles. In order to meet changing needs of the industry in terms of fuel efficiency and environment compliances, engine manufacturers are developing lighter, fuel efficient, powerful, and cleaner engines. It must be understood that fuel efficiency is not an exclusive function of the engine alone. It has to be adequately complimented by efficient transmissions, power trains, energy saving hydraulics, energy regeneration systems, quality fuel and even lubricants! The entire combination of various systems, finally delivers the desired results.

According to IDEMA, the government has concluded on what the next emission norms should be. Now it has to issue a gazette notification to this effect, which is expected within two years. When the emission norms become stringent, it is equally important that the consumables such as fuel, lubricating oils etc, of appropriate standards and quality are also to be made available easily across the country. The new emission standards mandates diesel with a maximum sulphur level of 10 ppm. There is a push for new projects in infrastructure sector, especially roads, and mining. This will perk up the demand for equipment in the next two years. Engines being the heart of these machines, the demand for new generation, energy efficient, eco-friendly and clean engines, in future is evident.

Ancillary and component manufacturers are rising to meet this challenge. A wave of new high precision, high quality products and systems manufactured to stringent specifications, being made available to OEMs, by Indian companies is a testament of their unflinching commitment to the new cause.

Maintenance software is a versatile enabler to the equipment management personnel. Using such software assists the equipment managers track the entire equipment fleet from procurement decisions, to commission to disposal through information and data-based action alerts. The service offered by software solution provider extends to assessing life cycle costs, individual item consumption patterns, maintenance history, supplier performance and even MIS. Most medium and large equipment fleet owners are using such software.
