Appetite for dust control systems is growing
Spraystream describes itself as a leading global player in dust control, cooling and misting systems to optimally address issues of industrial odour and dust. The company's products include mist canons, dust control for shredders, spray systems, leachate treatment and enzyme additives. Recently, the company has also begun assembly of its products in India.

When the Belgium-based company forayed into the Indian market in 2015, it was unable to find interested dealers for two years owing to lack of awareness about the utility of its products. However, with the expansion in the construction and industrial activity across the country, federal bodies such as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) have become increasingly strict in the enforcement of environment protection norms. Consequently, Spraystream has also witnessed a steady increase in demand for its products and services.

In an exclusive interaction with ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ India, Naveen Ranjan, Director, Spraystream India, said, "Deployment of our machines can help to curb dust pollution resulting from material handling by 90 per cent or more. This has already been proven and tested at several sites of the Delhi Metro."

For instance, during the construction of the third phase of the country's largest metro rail network in the Delhi NCR, the operator Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had ended up reimbursing up to Rs 200 million in fines to its contractors in the last six months of the project. Therefore, in the tender document issued for Phase-4, DMRC asked contractors to either implement mixed waste technologies or be prepared to pay penalties on their own. Third-party testing of Spraystream machines at the sites of Shapoorji Pallonji, L&T and J Kumar Infra as well as by DMRC at the site of Pratibha Industries revealed over 92 per cent decline in pollution caused by dust particles during construction.

The company is also engaged in the treatment of water generated from biowaste to make it suitable for gardening or irrigation.

The company started assembly of its products at Mandi village in Chhatarpur on the national capital's outskirts to become eligible for concessions extended to firms under the government's Make in India programme. "We have to pay 28 per cent import duty which is too high. Therefore, we want to localise our products by up to 30 per cent by sourcing most of the non-core components from here," informed Ranjan.

In another major development for the company, some JCB machines will shortly come equipped with Spraystream dust control systems globally.

Speaking about the growth in business and potential for further expansion, Ranjan said,"Our customers have also become Spraystream's brand ambassadors. We started with just one client as initially most felt that an investment in our products would be a burden on their resources. Today, some of our clients find even five units inadequate."

Other than construction and demolition (C&D), cement, power and steel and biowaste, Spraystream sees enormous potential for growth in open cast mining, going forward.
