Mohanlal Pillai, Managing Director of Virgo Marine Shipyards Pvt, has a rich working experience of over 35 years in the design & construction of small & medium sized crafts like chemical tankers, tugs, offshore support vessels, dredgers, jack-up barges, etc. He completed his B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding from the University of Cochin.

Pillai has been into construction of heavy-duty dipper dredger capable of rock breaking & dredging at 22-metre water depth, which he considers as his most challenging job till date. This project was executed for a Netherlands-based client. Owing to this project, Virgo Marine created a name in the market for very cost-effective & innovative products thereby attracting buyers from overseas.

He is currently working on a project to construct dredgers in India with indigenous machinery. Speaking about the expectations from this sector in future, Pillai said, ?Outlook for the future is quite buoyant with the Government?s policy on Ports & inland waterways development.?
